At the centre of this home is the island benchtop in “Taj Mahal – Time to Wander” — a signature piece from Story Surfaces.This Italian porcelain slab is as durable as it is beautiful, offering the luxurious look of natural marble with the practicality of kiln-fired porcelain. Its soft, gold veining and neutral base tone tie together the earthy palette while providing a light-reflective surface ideal for Queensland’s sunny climate. Continuing through the splashback to the height of the ceiling adds a grand feeling. For those seeking an alternative to marble or engineered stone, this full-body porcelain offers peace of mind without sacrificing style. It’s silica-free, stain-resistant, and incredibly low-maintenance—making it a smart and sustainable choice for modern Australian homes.
The cabinetry is finished in a calming Battledress Green, chosen to ground the space and bring a subtle nod to nature indoors. This colour is balanced with upper cupboards in light timber melamine, and the island base is clad in vertical Steccawood, adding warmth, rhythm, and tactile charm. The steccawood was a spectacular idea put forward by the lovely client, who had gathered inspiring images and identified desirable elements in her research phase.
Every element is curated – from the brass tapware to the soft-close drawers and integrated appliances. Even the details are dialled in: well-placed power points, ambient pendant lighting, and a hidden fridge cavity that keeps the sightlines clean.
This kitchen doesn’t just serve the needs of daily life. It enhances it. Designed for cooking, gathering, and storytelling, it’s a perfect example of how material choices can shape the way we feel at home. With the kids grown and gone, this home has stepped into a graceful new chapter. Here’s to many more years of comfort, beauty, and new memories for its owners.
